Simply beautiful... it's a perfect mix of all the nostalgic themes I've grown fond of from the Final Fantasy series. This is quite honestly an auto-download for anyone that's ever played the earlier Final Fantasy game. Bravo sir, bravo!

Loved it, but just one thing...

Why oh WHY couldn't you have chopped off that 2 seconds of dead air at the end!? It would've looped perfectly then! :(

shadow6nothing9 responds:

Yea, I'll delete this and shave off the last 2 seconds then upload it later. Thanks.

Regarding your song's name...

For a song named "A Battle Not Forgotten", it certainly won't be very memorable to me, sad to say. I will be frank and say that although I did grin & bear it and listened to the whole song, I was quite frankly bored to death listening to the guitar for 2 1/2 minutes straight. There was no change in the melody whatsoever aside from you substituting one instrument for another occasionally; the other 7 layers of the song stayed constant for almost 2 minutes. In addition, because you were slowly adding layers to the song, it wasn't even til after the 1:00 mark that it sounded somewhat interesting. I do hope you continue on this though, and would look forward to hearing a revised version.

HAZEBlade responds:

Thanks, but there are ALOT of people that like it the way it is im gonna change and do a little more things to it but its just a sample its not the full version.

I understand it was a "quick try", but...

I listened to the whole song, and while I believe this could've been much more promising, there's 2 major things that glared almost immediately.

1) Lack of mastering on instrument sound levels made it seem incredibly muddled at some points, to the point that you sometimes lost distinction of the melody among the other parts.

2) Some of the sound samples you used, particularly the percussion, were very poor quality, and very distracting.

If this were given a serious second-over with some better samples, this song would be excellent.

Aside from a few minor things, loved it!

I had seen you post this for review on OCRemix, and am glad you put this here as well. Laguna's theme is one of my more favorite FF songs, so you immediately are in good favor with me. :P

That being said, there's 2 things I noted that could be fixed to make this even better.

1) The machine gun/grenade effects you used from Laguna in FF8 just don't seem to jive with the song in my opinion. The gun sounds slightly off-tempo (which can't be fixed unless you slow the song down a tiny bit).

2) During 3 parts in the song, I was getting a soft, very high pitched tinny sound coming out of my right headphone from 2:12 - 2:27, again at 2:37 - 2:47, then once again from 3:34 - 3:56. It was very distracting, and sounded like a misplaced note.

Other than that, loved the song, and hope you can make it even better and get it posted to OCRemix. :)

Gario responds:

Thanks for the honest review, dude!

This will be revised sometime pretty soon (although the revision will not be posted here - I rather like having a unique Newgrounds & OCR edit of the same track), so you can keep an eye out for it on OCR.

The gun sound wasn't actually supposed to line up - it just so happens to almost work that way, so I won't be adjusting for it. I have a personal preference towards the SFX, so they'll probably stay, too. To each their own.

The squeaky sound is a part of the drum set. I'll center pan it more so it's less distracting - thanks for pointing it out.

Thanks for the review!

Love it, but I'm just wishing there was more

I agree with all the other reviews so far... it's very clean, relaxing, and peaceful. I just really wish that you'd carried the reinterpretation further and longer; I could easily see this blossoming into a full orchestral masterpiece with more strings and brass.

Chaotic, bouncy, and quite simply wonderful.

I remember first hearing this song on the McRolled YouTube videos... I'm quite shocked at how well you remixed this. The sounds used fit the song perfectly... chaotic, loud w/o being distorted (great mastering done on this btw), and at points it's got a nice playful vibe throughout. 10'd/5'd. :)

Not bad at all, a decent expansion off original.

I don't know if it might just be my headphones, but I caught a bit of distortion at 0:13 and 0:52. Other that that, it was fairly straightforward, and decent.

Way to use a sample from FL...

Don't use FL sample songs and try to promote them as your own, you gutless chode. If you think simply removing the guitar will make us any the less wiser, you're sadly mistaken.

Yep

The lower volume did the trick; it sounds MUCH better now.

Sonic-Freak responds:

Yep ^^
and thanks to you it's now much better
